Implementation of Somali Integrated Business Establishment Survey (SIBES)
Funded by: Somalia National Bureau of Statistics (SNBS), International Development Association (IDA)
Contracted by: AESA East Africa Limited
Somali Integrated Business Establishment Survey (SIBES) seeks to provide crucial statistical data on businesses, including economic activity, cost and revenue structures, employment, ownership status, and location. SIBES aims to enhance the quality of national accounts, inform government policy decisions, and support business sector growth.
The key objective of SIBES is to support evidence-based policy analysis, stimulate a systematic policy dialogue on the business environment, and shape the agenda for reform. The survey aims to build a Statistical Business Register (SBR) in the first phase, which will be a foundational tool for future statistical surveys and research.
Data collection for the Establishment Census Survey will be done using Computer-Assisted Personal Interviews (CAPI), Computer-Assisted Telephonic Interviews (CATI), and Computer-Assisted Web Interviews (CAWI). The surveys will be conducted in 16 major urban centres in Somalia, covering approximately 130,000 business establishments.
